a very nice way

this post is for all the ladies.

but of course you men are always welcome here at the peanut!

and you may find something of interest in this post too.

.

just a very nice way to start our first week in may!

.

we’re celebrating a favorite of mine here today on the peanut.

.

HELLO THERE

tom selleck !

.

alias

thomas magnum

private investigator.

.

blue shirt two

.

and judging from his ongoing career successes his work is still enjoyed by many.

.

but one of my most favorite of all is his wonderful series called

.

magnum in hawaii

courtesy:kingoftheflatscreen.com

.

i suppose this show might seem too tame now given the gory blood and guts

type of torturous and dark detective shows on the air that people watch today.

.

but it remains a classic for those of us with excellent taste!

  LOLOL!

i loved MAGNUM PI when it was on.  the whole world seemed to love magnum!

.

it was charming.  and adventurous.  and had the gorgeous back drop of

hawaii.

and FANTASTIC music.  the opening sequence alone got your energy going!

.

not to mention the gorgeous magnum himself!

dear heaven.  what a fabulous man.    tom selleck.

.

he has always been a favorite of mine.

he can go from action to comedy to drama to period pieces with singular ease.

.

if you’ve never seen ‘ three men and a baby ‘  you should.  it’s delightful!

.

three men and a baby

it costarred another wonderful actress i have always liked  .  .  .

nancy travis

you know she’s currently starring in the hit tv series  ‘ last man standing ‘

on the abc network with tim allen.  one of the few sitcoms i enjoy.

but i digress as usual!   this is supposed to be magnum’s post!

.

but first . . .

he has a place in my own state of oklahoma’s esteemed

‘ national cowboy and western heritage museum ‘

.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

well worth visiting if you’re ever here in cowboy and native american country.

.

it covers every aspect of the entire western experience.

.

the huge statue pictured below will literally give you chills.

it nearly fills the spacious room.

it was sculpted by the artist from his own original painting of the same title.

james earle fraser’s masterpiece

.

‘ the end of the trail ‘

.

a massive work in exquisite detail.

even to the expression on the faces of man and horse.

.

i stood before it in silent tears.

.

it captures the very real tragedy that the settling of the american west

perpetrated on the native americans of this land.

.

‘ end of the trail ‘

.

trails end

.

.

tom is included with john wayne and all the other greats of the legendary

‘ cowboys of the movies ‘

represented there  . . .  as well as their real counterparts from history.

.

tom has starred in many westerns and is an expert rider himself.

some of those westerns of his include another favorite of mine  .  .  .  sam elliott.

.

tom and sam

.

tom and sam

.

lawdy miss clawdy!

i wouldn’t mind being rescued by either one of em’!

.

the shadow riders

.

these movies are known for their authentic grit and realism of the era . . .

as well as some others starring just himself  . . .  such as one set in australia called

‘quigley down under.’

.

quigley

.

most currently he’s been doing the critically acclaimed  jesse stone movie series.

and of course his hit show called ‘blue bloods’ is an ongoing success now too.

.

but for me

  Magnum PI

is my favorite role of all!

a former navy seal in the viet nam war.

.

who now becomes . . .

navy seal

.

a free spirited private investigator

.

living by working pro bono on a grand estate

owned by the mysteriously always absent author

robin masters

in hawaii.

.

a wonderfully long lived series for 8 years

1980 – 1988.

.

magnum with dog

.

i love any man who loves dogs.

.

.

.

but dimples don’t hurt either.

.

side glance

.

he gave new meaning to the hawaiian shirt!

.

and the red ferrari.

LOL!

.

tom and red car

.

i also liked all the other characters in the show.

and one in particular named ‘higgins’ who was played brilliantly

by john hillerman.

.

higgins

.

if you want to go back to a more innocent time .  .  .   well .  .  .

as innocent as possible with the viet nam war just ended and

murder investigations around every corner!!!

.

tom and higgins

.

but you know what i mean.

and

judging from today’s VERY FEW that i have ever watched and cannot stand

there isn’t the depravity in the magnum series that you see nowadays.

yet they were always full of plenty of action and sufficient excitement.

and

instead of the mind numbing repetitive senseless dialogue that you find in

many of those type shows that are on now .  .  .

in magnum pi you found instead

.

humor  and style  and wit  and camaraderie of great individual characters.

all without nasty language and dismembered body parts everywhere!

.

and NO CELL PHONES!!!!   LOLOL!  WHAT??? !!!

oh my.  whatever did they DO without them old bean ????

.

the actors in the show all became great friends in real life and it showed in

their performances.

.

magnum and friends

.

like a family even.

they worked together and played together . . .

volley ball . . .  kayaking . . .  and sharing meals.

just enjoying the active life in the beautiful sunny paradise called hawaii !

.

.

move over mr cary grant!

though i do confess to loving you too.

.

this is the man.

.

tom in tux

.

.

well.

it’s a very nice way to start my week.

and your week.

as a matter of fact  .  .  .

it’s a downright lovely way to start our week here at the peanut!

don’t you think ladies?

.

and ohmygoodness!

it’s ALREADY MAY FIRST.

summer is really on the horizon now!

.

my week is going to go well.  i just know it!

i hope your week goes well for you too old bean.

.

and remember . . .

you can always stop by and just enjoy the view here if it doesn’t.

LOLOL!

oh yes.  well.

i guess . . .

we really shouldn’t leave without visiting him NOW

and honor how he looks today!

magnum was a long time ago after all.

.

tom and i are the same age.

only he’s about 6 months older than i am.

his birthday is in january.  mine in june.

he has stayed his same beautiful self of course.  as most ALL men tend to do.

.

so refreshing that he doesn’t believe in that horrible thing called plastic surgery.

the word ‘plastic’ to me is a giveaway.  it makes those people’s faces look fake.

.

but then he doesn’t appear to even need it.  he’s aging gracefully and beautifully.

most men simply seem to do just that.   have you noticed?  it’s really true.

  1. Yes! I saw Three Men and a Baby years ago and just recently started watching Blue Bloods. I had heard of Magnum PI and was surprised I can’t see it using Netflix, so I bought the whole series on Amazon and it came today. I figured I would probably like it, and if I didn’t there were plenty of people who would love to have it. So buying it was a no-brainer. 🙂

i’m so glad you saw three men and a baby. such a sweet movie!
can’t wait for you to enjoy magnum. i know you will! 🙂

  2. Sometimes you meet, (or just watch on tv) people who just have a basic decency about them. Those are the ones to hang on to.

    • tammy j

absolutely! the way i feel also. and he’s one of those for me.
and i’m so glad you’ve come back to the peanut after all my recent tech struggles.
now i will give you a proper welcome! 🙂 thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • tammy j

      my goodness dunnasead!
it has dawned on me finally where i have seen you before. rummy’s blog!
i just came from your own now and am going back to read more in the archives. so glad to discover you! i’m too lazy that way. a bad trait.
i’ve read and enjoyed your comments on his posts forever! LOL. welcome again dear bean!

      • Thank you, Tammy. For the welcome, and the unbelievably beautiful comments on my blog. I will thank you properly there when I do my letter answering. As for your blog, you can be sure, I will also be reading the archives. ps. Love the term dear bean. And am also fond of coffee bean, baked bean. And most important, human bean.

        • tammy j

goodness! i’d say you’ve just thanked me properly. 🙂
i’m afraid my old archives are pretty beat up now after the hacker got through with me.
i love posting beautiful images on them and though the posts themselves could be saved…
the pictures and apparently all comments on them have been lost forever. such is life!
and i love baked beans! LOL. i just made some tonight as a matter of fact. and…
yes. we human beans. some are simply the best. xo

  3. Since this is for ladies, I will just say that I don’t watch TV and in any case, I doubt very much that Magnum gets a following here. I did see Three Men And A Baby when it was shown here some years ago.

    • tammy j

i’m thinking you might like the westerns he did maybe rummy. ahem…
being an old cowboy yourself. cowboy means many things. to me anyway.
      and you are one.
and any post is NEVER just for the ladies ONLY. you and nick are my only male readers
and i consider you of upmost importance!

  4. Yes, strictly for the ladies, I think – can’t say I fancy Tom Selleck! My taste in men is more on the lines of Pharrell Williams. Purely on a platonic level you understand! I don’t think Magnum has ever been shown in the UK either.

You have only two male readers? That surprises me. Your blog is such fun and always so positive.

    • tammy j

      LOLOL!!!
      well.
if the other males are out there reading it
      they’re the silent type. 🙂
      thanks!

  5. Be still my heart! I do believe we have the same taste in men Tammy. Rugged, handsome to the max, and blue eyes! *sign*

I loved three men and a baby, but I confess I never really got into Magnum as I typically don’t watch series TV, but just hearing about it from your apt description makes me realize I surely missed out.

Not only is he handsome as all get out, but he’s a damn good person. I do hate him for aging so well though. Not fair.

(Oh, and I respectfully disagree that ALL men age well. There’s a few winners out there my friend! Lol)

    xxx

    • tammy j

LOLOL!!! WE DO! we have superb taste in men! XOXO♥
      and
      come to think of it.
“all” IS a rather sweeping statement. the hawking and spitting and scraggly ones…
yes. there are those who do not age well. LOL

  6. Evening Tammy….
    A true 80’s heartthrob, that Tom Selleck….
Loved Magum PI…Not sure it would fly today…
    TV has changed so much…
    Thank goodness for PBS!
    Boyfriend gone…did hardly anything today…:o)
Perhaps I will stir up some trouble tomorrow….hahaha!
    Enjoy your evening…
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

    • tammy j

cheers cc girl! enjoy your week of not cooking! well. maybe not as much cooking! 🙂

  7. Omg! I have always loved that guy.
Did you watch “Friends” when he and Monica fell in love. God, he was so classy and gorgeous.
I haven’t seen any of the westerns but I’ll be sure to check them out now!
    Thanks!
Here’s a funny moment. I was talking with my sister on the phone. She’s very dry humored and spare with her words. Anyway, all of a sudden in the conversation she said “I’d do him” and I asked her “What!? Who?!” (She’s married) and I said “who would you do?”and she laughed and said she was watching Blue Bloods as we talked and that she’d DO Tom Selleck.
That just made me burst out laughing.
Yep. He has quite the fan club!
    Thanks for the yummy photos!
    Xoxoxo

    • tammy j

      LOLOL!!!! SYNCHRONICITY!
you won’t believe this but as much as i like him i’ve never watched blue bloods
except for a couple of times. i forget it’s on! i watch so little tv now!
and YES! i did watch him the whole time he was with monica on friends that time.
      he’s yummy alright! XOXO♥
