good grief charlie brown!
WHAT ? another post already ???
here’s why. had to get it out of the DRAFT CLOSET!
it’s what minimalists do.
CLEAR IT OUT!
actually . . .
this is the post that was supposed to be in place of the last post called
it was all ready to go old bean.
BUT i just couldn’t post it somehow.
i ditched this one because i thought it was just too preachy.
and . . . then i realized . . . ALL my posts seem preachy!
well. i’ll explain it below.
to give some of you ample time to opt out early.
i’m going ahead now and posting it here anyway.
because i don’t like drafts to hang around.
for those of you who are finding a little calling somewhere . . .
in the back of your mind maybe . . .
to declutter a bit . . .
or just the desire to simplify your life
and to try living the cosy minimalist way.
or maybe you’re already living it old bean!
as i know many of you are from comments you’ve made . . .
and you just like reading or talking or even thinking about it
just as much as i do!
if so . . . read happily on.
for the rest of you dear readers who can’t stand another thought about it
just GROAN LOUDLY!
and come back another time. no hard feelings old bean !!!
we’ll miss you.
but we understand.
how long is she going to beat that dead horse ???
well. what can i say. we cosy minimalists just stick together!
we will continue with the post that was supposed to be.
instead of ‘less.’
thank you by the way for ALL your fantastic comments in that one!
this post began here actually . . .
there are as many ways to live in this world as there are individuals in it.
mc mansions. tiny. new. old. vintage. mid century. modern. loft. condo.
apartment. cottage. high rise.
cardboard box under a bridge.
and for millions of refugees . . . a tent. shared with others.
it’s where we should be able to
be at peace.
my way of being at home is cosy minimalism and simple living.
and . . .
those who read this peanut already know that.
and might be just a little tired of hearing all about it.
you also KNOW that i can’t go for very long without talking about it.
maybe that’s a curse. i don’t know. i think it probably is.
probably like some kind of OCD thing . . . like lining up my shoes just so.
i’m not trying to convince anyone. i’m not old bean.
i just like talking about it! it’s fun to me.
like some people talk about cars or cameras or gardening or cooking . . .
every so often i just have to talk about cosy minimalism and the simple life.
have you ever noticed . . .
whenever the word minimalist or minimalism is mentioned . . .
most people shake their heads and frown.
they immediately invision
stark. white. plain. cold. hard edges. sterile.
BLECH!!! NOT FOR ME!
well of course.
it CAN be that. but it doesn’t HAVE to be!
minimalism is just like all the other ISM’S in this world really.
a myriad of individuality in interpretation of a basic idea.
whether a religion or a décor!
if you’re a country or new england traditionalist . .
the room below could make you feel comfortable and still be what i call
it has enough ‘things’ in it to feel comfortably cosy for most people.
not stark. but not cluttered either.
every table is not overflowing with artifacts … knick knacks… stuff.
your eyes can rest. they’re not overwhelmed.
and . . . on each table . . . notice . . .
there is room to set down a glass or a cup and even a book.
yes. it might look a little staged to you. that’s because it is.
it’s a cottage for sale.
but . . . i suppose until you’re used to the idea . . .
a cosy minimalist room might feel staged to you too!
less stuff equals neatness. an uncluttered feeling.
where you see staginess . . .
a cosy minimalist sees serenity and order.
there could be plants or flowers added to this room . . .
and a few frames with family photos in them sitting around.
otherwise . . . it’s done. at least to me it is!
except . . . my all time love . . . BOOKS! i’d have to have my books.
and a simple bookcase would do nicely.
still . . .
it’s a perfect expression of the restraint
that is cosy minimalism in a traditional setting.
the idea always is to live with beauty and comfort. beauty that calls for
which in swedish remember . . . translates to
such a lovely philosophy of life!
courtesy of my friend rosemary from her wonderful and inspiring blog
content in a cottage
minimal to me is really just room to breathe.
to let one’s spirit roam around the room unhindered and delighted
in space and light. to not get caught in cluttered dusty corners!
here . . . below . . . is an example of rustic modern.
with a view to die for.
i could live there with an ARMY COT and a blanket
and one chair for pete’s sake!!!
and be totally HAPPY!
just to have that deck and that view . . .
fresh mountain air!
here’s a room in a country home in england below . . .
fresh flowers. a few books. pillows .
but nothing overwhelming.
unless it’s the overwhelming budget.
we’re just having a little fun here.
i had another blog for a little while actually called
do any of you remember that?
this picture was from one of the posts in it.
i liked the colors and the windows. and i love england.
and the thought of this lovely room there . . .
this ‘ditched preachy post’ ended here. old bean.
maybe it wasn’t so preachy after all. i don’t know!
i’m no judge. i’ve apparently been bossy all my life. LOLOL.
i have to watch that old bean. i really do. i can be very pushy.
the marine told me that OFTEN during our childhood. LOLOL!
apparently i was VERY BOSSY. and he might still say it.
i’ll just clarify right now and say . . .
how you choose to live in your own home is your own wonderful business!
FRIDAY! a quick little cold front has moved through! YES!
before the next heat wave.
i celebrated the first of only THREE cool days we’re to have now . . .
by cleaning out my closet!
she had STUFF she didn’t need or want anymore?
that hoity toity minimalist???
but OF COURSE i did old bean!
we all do!
and it’s FUN to get in there and GET RID OF IT!
even if it’s only for 3 days!
and to my beloved vicki . . . happy spring!
til soon old bean.
and p s
please don’t feel you have to leave a comment on yet another minimalist post!
after all . . . how often can you lovingly or politely agree with me???
have a cosy weekend old bean! i will be!
