i know a lady.
her name is
and today her heart is nigh onto breaking old bean.
this lady i know
has a heart
that has to break
over and over again.
and yet she keeps on doing
what most of the rest of us can’t find the courage to do.
there are a few.
thank heaven for them!
cindi also has that courage.
i know i don’t have that kind of courage.
i simply don’t.
see the picture above?
it is of another gracious lady.
her name was
annie just left us this morning.
she has left all of us
who visit golden pines.
we have tears today.
she was over 15 years old.
two years ago her owner
was dying of cancer.
he longed to have her with him until he died.
she had been such a love and comfort to him.
she was his golden girl.
as kim said
annie epitomized all that is best about a golden.
steve decided to do what was best for his annie.
instead of keeping her with him
he gave her a chance at a last wonderful life
at golden pines.
with the lady i know.
it’s the home of kim and her husband carl.
she’s the lady i know.
kim and carl rescue old goldens.
and quite a lot of others.
they are not all goldens maybe . . .
but they all have hearts of gold!
kim has a vet who doctors them.
and keeps them as healthy as possible at their advanced ages.
she takes excellent care of them.
while working a stressful full time job with a dentist.
and a long commute every day.
life at golden pines is first for this lady i know.
if they’re a fortunate enough dog to come there . . .
let’s just say . . .
they all live out their lives to the fullest!
some of them playing frisbee still . . .
on lush green spacious lawns . . .
sometimes rolling in glorious cold snow . . .
always basking in sunlight . . .
taking walks . . .
good food and special treats.
sleeping on warmth always . . .
inside their own home there with the lady.
old bones and joints you know.
just like ours.
some people might never think about that.
the lady i know does.
sometimes these dogs have known
terrible abuse and neglect
before they come to golden pines.
they have never known what it’s like to be
annie had always been loved.
it shows in the calm beauty of those eyes.
the serenity of that glorious old white face.
see the sunlight on her old white face
as she looks up into the light . . .
it’s how we should all face our own death someday.
beautiful acceptance for a job well done.
annie was a good dog.
she fitted in from the very beginning kim says.
things are sad today at golden pines
somewhere in the beautiful hills of virginia
near our nation’s capitol.
there are woods.
and other creatures of the wild.
a huge porch to lie on and keep watch.
there’s a resident cat too.
and an incorrigible little scotty puppy
he’s not a little little puppy anymore
but he’s still very much puppy enough
to make us all laugh at his antics.
and he’s a one man welcoming committee.
if you want your heart lifted constantly . . .
even through bouts of the sadness
as we all feel today
you must visit
of the lady i know.
it will re~connect you to what is important
in this thing we call
it’s the circle.
and kim knows it well.
she’s the special
lady i know.
til soon old bean.
