she taught us
just get better with
and . . .
she didn’t even
whiten her teeth
to look like chalk!!!!
she was just herself.
the indomitable hepburn.
the quotable hepburn!
let’s listen . . .
” life is to be lived.
if you have to support yourself you had bloody well
better find some way that is going to be interesting.
and you don’t do that
by sitting around
wondering about yourself. “
will be full of pictures of real women.
not movies stars.
honest to goodness
real life women.
women of a certain age
as the french say.
oddly enough . . .
women of an older age are highly valued
in many other modern cultures.
it only seems to be
that has an obsessive dangerous pointless
love affair with
it truly is almost sickening.
i use the word pointless
because if there’s one thing that’s certain . . .
we will ALL age.
i know of no one who’s escaped it yet.
they live long enough that is!
listen to katharine one more time.
” vitality! that’s the pursuit of life. isn’t it? “
feeds the soul.
makes one beautiful.
no matter what our age is!
and the simple joys
the joy of a walk.
a simple walk!
although right now only very short ones for me . . .
i’m finding out how much i’d forgotten
that i totally enjoyed it!
i always did old bean!
oh how i do miss my zeke though.
it seems his little self should be right down there walking beside me.
how he did love a good WALK!
we took many walks. each day. and very long ones.
in ALL kinds of weather.
except for the very hottest part of the day in summertime.
not healthy for either one of us then!
somehow i like to think he’s still here.
with me. walking.
oh my zekey love.
good times with you my boy.
just for the fun of it!
little by little.
getting back to my yoga.
it feels so good.
and it helps the pain in my leg.
doing those postures i’m allowed to do
with hypertension and a silly blood clot!
~ ya work with what ya got ~
and speaking of moves . . .
for these moves below . . .
i enjoy using cans of tomato soup.
i don’t have the weights.
but i work at it anyway.
i’ve always done this actually . . .
for years now.
it keeps your upper arms firm.
where i live i wear sleeveless little tops
all summer long.
because of the terrible and extreme heat.
these moves with my soup cans really work!
who says you have to buy any special stuff?
this is a great minimalist workout!
when i’m hungry for it i can just eat the soup.
then . . .
i just buy two more cans every now and then.
i don’t have the soup every day you know.
i LOVE tomato soup!
i see it as a win~win situation.
AND . . .
ta da !!!
a lovely added benefit also is . . . .
it keeps your CHEST
nice and firm and high!
it just DOES old bean!!!
it’s all in how you work that soup i guess!
the law of physics or something.
maybe that was a little
too much information to share here.
enquiring minds might need to know.
so keep those soup cans stocked!
joie de vivre
actually a nounal.
i just made up that word.
i think we need the word nounal.
it might come in handy someday.
sort of part adjective part noun!
joie de vivre
an exuberant enjoyment of
it’s much different than mere happiness.
lots of things can make us have happy moments.
but joie de vivre
is more of a condition of living i think.
it’s only what i think. it may be something totally different
i think it’s
a feeling deep inside.
quietly spilling over!
into every aspect of your life.
maybe it’s not a noun. or nounal.
maybe it’s just a bunch of
all put together into one
beauty in the bowl
beauty looking healthy
holding the bowl.
and speaking of that beauty . . .
what cindy joseph tells us.
it’s SILVER hair.
because silver has VALUE.
as in sterling silver.
we need to think of ourselves as valued.
with each year our value goes
hopefully we will have learned even
we will have experienced life at its fullest
and we will know
quiet joy within.
see this picture below?
aren’t they lovely?
i think they are.
there is a strange thing.
i never encountered it all that much in my life . . .
but on a few occasions i have.
my dear friend cindi recently did a whole post on it
on her blog
old black catboo.
it’s on my sidebar. you should visit!
it’s a FABULOUS blog !!!
she is one very talented artist and writer.
but . . . the thought is . . . this . . .
it’s how younger women treat each other.
well. sometimes women of all ages really.
but it seems most prevalent now among younger women.
and even especially teen aged girls.
so . . .
if you’re a mother of a teen aged girl or even older . . .
here’s some food for thought . . . to watch out for . . .
and help guide in the right direction.
in our society . . .
it’s sadly always been there to some degree.
but now it seems to be even getting worse apparently.
as if there’s this GIANT competition.
and they are so catty with each other . . .
unfortunate word really.
it’s an insult to the very real and noble cat.
and sometimes they’re more than catty.
they are just plain downright MEAN sometimes!
it’s not always about men.
though i’m sure that enters into it.
has meanness become so second nature?
sad beyond belief to me.
if ever there were a reason for us to
and being of value
regardless of our ages
why on earth would we throw that away ???
backbiting and underhanded fake friendships?
i never understood it when i was young
and i still don’t understand it now.
when our sisters in other lands
withstanding all kinds of degradation
and downright abuse through
NO FAULT of their own
other than that of being born a woman.
they are SUFFERING.
in some lands you must be covered from head to toe.
regardless of the suffocating HEAT of the day.
and you are not ever allowed out of your house except with a male.
your home is literally your prison.
in some lands
when you must go get water for your family
you risk your very life . . . for this simple necessity.
and you are
and gang raped
to get WATER???
in some lands
you are still
treated like objects of derision.
you are not allowed to drive a car.
you have only RECENTLY
to ride a bicycle.
in some lands
it is perfectly legal
to sell you as a child
when you are only
to any grown man
just to make money.
in some lands
if you are born female
you are simply
just because you are
dear GOD ladies.
we have it so good in this country!!!
and yet some of us spend time in
verbally cutting each other to shreds.
it’s just senseless.
and so sad really.
‘ i bow to you. ‘
my soul recognizes the soul in you.
a lovely greeting or goodbye.
it is not a superficial gesture or a mere word.
and it is for all people.
young and old.
friends and strangers.
what a lovely way to remember
sublimate the ever present ego
in us all!
uh oh !!!
i’ve been blessedly quiet for almost a week.
deciding i will be posting only once a week now.
and what do i do?
first thing back?
like a wind~up doll . . .
i stand up on my
poor old soapbox.
it was feeling lonely i guess.
stuck there in the back of the closet.
i vaguely remember promising to
LEAVE IT THERE!!!
and this post was only going to be about
it looks like lots of “old habits” die hard!
not just computer addiction.
back to my subject.
going out to take a
healthy WALK now.
still working on breaking my
computer addiction habit.
such a lovely habit to break.
slowly but surely
it’s going to be a wild ride here for a few days.
almost 90 degrees today.
tomorrow the very good chance of tornadoes.
and then a drop in temperatures to freezing.
it’s never boring on this prairie.
till next time old bean!
til next time.
