this is one retired person’s
some of it
some of it only
but all of it
appreciated and enjoyed!
for years when i was married and didn’t work
i did a lot of volunteer work.
then bob died and i had to work to make a living.
so for 27 years i was just working
and looking forward to each weekend
until i could eventually
do just as i wanted to do!
that’s just the way it simply is.
and it’s simply
i highly recommend it!
paying all those dues
for all those long years
was totally worth it old bean.
sometimes i thought it wasn’t.
sometimes i thought i’d just
but i did.
and it’s just grand !
i’m usually up early.
not always with the dawn.
though i did that all the years working.
so it is rather a habit.
but i get up now whenever i feel like it!
that alone is sheer heaven.
what a gift. one you don’t even realize until you can do it!
and first thing of course . . .
i who hate even the word
PILL . . .
have to swallow this little tiny pink levothyroxine pill.
i’m grateful for it. it’s necessary now.
since . . .
as of last year as you know i no longer have a thyroid.
it never worked anyway.
so i say . . . good riddance!
i make my bed.
nope. not mine.
but mine is just this simple.
isn’t this one just lovely?
there’s only what’s needed.
always the mark of a beautiful simple room.
the morning sunlight is streaming in . . .
ahhhhh . . .
then . . .
it’s off to my tiny galley kitchen.
it’s like being on a small boat really.
everything is minimal and ship shape.
just the things i need here and that’s all.
only i don’t have any
rocking and rolling of the waves.
i’m totally landlocked in my little galley.
i heat water in the microwave
and fix me a cup of delicious
my ” cup of chemicals. “
that’s what my friend celia calls my coffee.
but i don’t care. though she is totally right of course.
and still i don’t care! some things ya just gotta trust to fate.
and besides . . .
somewhere in there . . .
there IS some real coffee !!!
café francais with a teaspoon of café vienna.
then i take the simple white cup to my desk.
i turn on the lamp by the computer . . . if it’s still dark outside . . .
then i turn on the computer.
then i say the same thing i’ve always said for years now . . .
” HELLO WORLD ! “
i visit all my favorite blogs.
i check the weather report.
then unless i write a post . . . or reply to emails . . .
i turn this thing OFF !
the blinds are open now.
sunlight pouring in.
usually a gorgeous morning!
then i do a little house work
in this tiny little wren house.
also . . . something new . . .
which is an everyday thing now . . .
is to sweep the balcony.
in my dreams old bean !!! i wish !!!
but i like my little balcony just fine.
they’re doing road work up on the highway.
all the topsoil has been scraped off.
and the ever blowing wind blows the dust all over our city.
every single day.
i never wear shoes in the wren house.
and i guess it’s a good thing.
that dirt tracked in wouldn’t take long to ruin
my nice new carpet.
i’m a merry maid.
and just like washing dishes by hand . . .
sweeping can be very contemplative work i find.
then . . .
i hop into the shower.
is there anything in this world
and as refreshing!
as a clean hot shower?
nothing like it really
WAKE UP !
I NEVER FAIL
to say thank you
for the abundant clean water.
a blessed gift that so many in this world
simply do not have.
never any clean water.
to even drink. much less to bathe in.
so unimaginable. yet a reality for so many.
the privacy of my neat little bath room.
the sheer joy of it!
the two things for sure that i will
take for granted.
i dress in always only comfortable clothes
to venture into the outside world.
and sometimes i just might drop by the library.
to browse and select
something wonderful to read!
it’s a favorite place of mine.
every now and then
i treat myself to lunch out!
always with the marine whenever he calls.
and mostly sometimes
i have several places i enjoy . . .
and sometimes it’s
the cracker barrel.
you know . . . that store that is a restaurant.
or that restaurant that is a store.
not sure which is which!
” just a glass of iced water with lemon please. “
” a vegetable plate. “
i get to choose 4 vegetables.
” do you want biscuits or cornbread muffins? “
“one of each please!”
everything tastes delicious.
i pay the bill
and walk past
the thousands of knicky knackys without
wanting a single one of them!
the pleasurable life of the
it’s a good life old bean.
a simple life.
not dull at all.
full of simple joys
for the most part
in the afternoon perhaps
a nice walk
around this complex
that i think of as a resort!
i’m just not crazy about television in general.
i never turn on tv in the daytime.
unless we’re in tornado season.
and then if there are warnings everywhere
it’s a must of course. your life might depend on it.
all that’s on is the weather then anyway!
and i find that just fascinating to watch.
our meteorologists are the best in the world.
in each evening usually
i do watch a little tv.
i don’t watch the news but i like the national weather channel.
and i hate most of what is on mainstream tv.
i don’t watch all those reality shows and the sitcoms and such.
but on two of the mainstream channels . . . cbs and abc . . .
I DO WATCH
the big bang theory
they are just hilarious !!! and wonderful!!!
they never fail to make me laugh. i love them both.
then . . .
if there’s nothing on pbs
but there usually is . . .
i can find a documentary somewhere on the old
or sometimes it’s simply a wonderful old classic movie
i never tire of those!
i fix me a bowl of popcorn and i’m in heaven.
and downton abbey of course on sundays when it’s on.
any masterpiece theatre production actually.
always top quality.
and sherlock. love that benedict cumberbatch!
and well . . .
pbs and bbc just never fail to deliver.
what can i say? love them all.
the marine recently loaned me the dvd of
series number one of . . .
‘ miss fisher’s murder mysteries. ‘
it’s a series made and filmed in australia.
it’s fabulous fun. set in the art deco period of the 1920’s.
i highly recommend it!
or if i find nothing i want to watch . . .
i read again in my wonderful book.
i always have a good book going.
and earlier in the evening celia calls.
we share our day.
and sometimes discuss world events.
we solve lots of them.
i wish washington would just call us!
would that everyone in this world
could know the quiet joy
of one simple day.
and i know in my own aching heart for them
that they can’t.
i am here . . . wishing it for you old bean.
wherever you are.
and if you’re working long and long
and feel totally burnt out
as i often did . . .
i promise you
it will eventually come!
your own simple day.
to do just as you please.
i send you love.
stay the course through the rough sea
if you must keep sailing it.
if there are no other options right now for you
stay the course!
be of courage. be of good courage.
til soon old bean!
