here i am.
bundled to the nines. looking over the winter landscape.
a beautiful day to breathe cold winter air.
or . . .
truth to tell . . .
you know old bean! i’m not out there at all !!!
i just WISH I WERE !!!
zeke and i used to take long walks in the snow.
it was his favorite time of year. he was a polish lowland sheepdog.
they’re called pons. it’s from the polish name for the breed.
the vet said when zeke was rescued that he was no doubt from a puppy mill.
our state is notorious for puppy mills.
you know. those despicable people who breed pure bred dogs
over and over and over . . .
until they’re sick and exhausted and can’t move because they’ve been in a small cage
their ENTIRE lives.
such an atrocious thing to be notorious for. abominable really.
it’s all about the money. not the dogs.
as long as people buy from them – there will continue to be puppy mills.
they are nothing but concentration camps. FACTORIES that create sick puppies.
i am not talking about genuine breeders with integrity here.
i’m talking puppy mills. there is a difference.
but truly. the best dogs are those that you simply rescue.
the ones we often lovingly call ‘mutts’ !!! such great little fur people !!!
whether you find them on your own . . . lost and abandoned . . .
or from the pound . . . which they now call animal shelters . . .
they are the ones who spend the rest of their lives showing you
how much they love you! and how grateful they are that you saved them.
zeke was my rescued darling. if you haven’t read about him
LOL!!! HOW COULD YOU MISS HIM ??? !!!
please do! he’s worth the few seconds it would take. believe me.
he lived a simple good life.
his small pleasures were loving me unconditionally.
cool clean water to drink. food to eat. a soft place to lie down.
walks with me. anywhere. it didn’t matter. just to be with me.
he was a contemplative little dog . . . quite like this one who looks just like him . . .
no. this is not my own beloved zeke.
it simply looks exactly like him.
my marine is walking again for the cure.
it’s a charity for children with cancer.
it was his late wife chris’s favorite charity.
this is the second year she’s been gone.
as i write this
he is somewhere hiking with a small group in the mountains of arkansas.
i’m sure he does it to honor her. and . . . well . . .
he is simply a mountain man at heart. it is what he loves.
i do not worry. i used to. but it is energy poorly spent.
he’s always done it . . . ever since he was a boy . . .
walking in woods and mountains. it’s who he is.
here are some of my own small pleasures below . . .
small pleasures can be the best.
most especially if you’re by yourself. and in the winter time. and loving your life
just as it is! the whole country seems to be in a deep freeze right now.
i hope your stresses are few old bean.
slow . love . life .
carve out a little time for yourself if you have a family to care for.
you need those moments of refreshment! you do old bean!
you can do it! hard as it may be!
isn’t that simply lovely?
a wise monk.

MERRY TOES FOR THE HOLIDAYS ! ! ! ♥ ♥ ♥
i’m thinkin’ i might just have to do this ! ! !
merry toes to you too ! LOLOL.
it’s a winter secret. only you and santa will know !
something warm in a cup. a favorite something.
in a simple white cup. as clean and unadorned as the white snow outside.
welcome to you winter.
it is a quiet time of year. if you want it to be.
but in today’s world you have to want it badly enough to create it.
a quietness of the heart.
a replenishing of the spirit.
that’s what it’s all about charlie brown.
i’m a reader. i read all through the year.
but for some reason it’s even more wonderful to get lost in a book
when it’s cold outside and warm inside!
and a tradition that i keep every year ?
why . . . it’s reading once again . . .
‘ the wind in the willows ‘ ! ! !
yes. it’s a children’s book. but then i have many children’s books i read.
they’re never just for children.
thank you kenneth grahame!
the illustrations are even better than the stories.
and there is this treasure too!
” in the spirit of ‘the wind in the willows’ “
by the talented mr horwood.
and as if he knows we can’t get enough!
speaks for itself !
well old bean.
it’s actually time to eat a rather late lunch.
i’m going to have a bowl of home made creamy potato soup!
maybe with a little shredded cheese on top.
and some multigrain harvest nut bread. toasted.
a meal that might even have been served in front of the fire
at mr badger’s house!
you know . . .
after we walked through the snowy woods to his cosy house.
mr badger is a wonderfully gracious host!
we might just have to spend the night. we’ll go home in the morning.
it’s far too cosy here to leave unnecessarily !
oh my yes.
i almost plum forgot!
and it’s such a FAVORITE of mine !!!
another of my simple pleasures is TARTAN !!!
i love it any time of the year.
but most especially in the winter time.
it just never fails to lift my spirits when i see it.
it makes a house a home. I wouldn’t be without it.
speaking of scottish pleasures . . .
i wouldn’t mind this scottish delight sharing my parlour with the scottish tartan . . . LOLOL !!!
the man is like a fine wine.
but then . . .
enough simple pleasures for one afternoon !!!
here’s to your own simple pleasures old bean.
whatever they may be.
keep them. treasure them. however small.
they’re what makes life worth living!
keep the lamp light golden.
til soon old bean.
