YUP ! a little early . . . but . . .
grins of gratitude
for the special day to come . . .
the one set aside in this country to simply say THANK YOU !
happy thanksgiving day !
from snoopy and woodstock and me.
and thanks for stopping by!
we’re serving up major snoopy hugs at the peanut today.
one is coming your way right now.
and we’re hoping that if you’re traveling this holiday
that you and your family will arrive safely.
be safe dear ones! the weather will make it a challenge!
here’s to a wonderful day . . . wherever you may be . . .
if you’re in the bosom of your small or large family on thanksgiving . . .
what a weird expression . . . the bosom ???
if you’re all alone in a room with only the tv or a good book
and a beloved furry animal . . .
or maybe you’re alone with no animal . . .
or . . .
maybe you’ll be with a human animal you don’t even really like !!! LOLOL!
i’m just feeling the love.
and the humor of it all.
you may have to look for it . . .
but it’s there.
it’s a day for feeling good.
it’s just our own personal choice you know!
i bought the most delicious tiny punkin’ pie to have on
as a matter of fact . . .
when i finish this post i’ll probably have a piece for my breakfast!
i know. i know!
it’s not even quite thanksgiving.
and yes i’m writing this early.
but i figured you’ll be actually too busy on thanksgiving day to stop by.
you’ll be finishing cooking and baking and merry making
and parade watching and game watching!
AND yes . . .
my little pie is . . . a BOUGHT one !
as sophia loren said with such charm to cary grant
in that delightful movie . . . “houseboat” . . .
” i do not cook.”
and i do not cook much any more either old bean.
almost sacrilege to admit on thanksgiving day i know.
but. there you have it.
although truth to tell . . .
i do actually cook a bit on thanksgiving.
simply because i love all those wonderful old fashioned dishes.
yes. even the green bean casserole!
and i love having leftovers all the next week. i don’t tire of it.
i can’t have cranberry sauce this year. the vitamin K thing . . .
but that’s fine. i’ll have a nice fruit salad.
however. even though my cooking will be light . . .
i most assuredly.
really rockin’ mean punkin’ pie !!!! I DO old bean !!!
i’ll be thinking of you on the esteemed day.
the day set aside to count all our blessings.
and even the saddest alonest life has many blessings.
it’s just in all how you look at it!
i ‘ll be putting up my small white pre~lit tree with all the tiny white lights.
it will have a few little colored birds perched in among the branches.
no other decoration.
except for white silk poinsettia flowers all around the base of the tree.
i do not use a tree skirt for it.
it looks like a magical fairy tree in the snow when it’s all done!
it sits on a large glass topped table. the lights are reflected in the glass.
and on the same table are three simple crystal holders with tea lights.
that’s all. nothing else.
at least to me.
much like the true spirit of this little tree. though a few more branches! LOL!
putting up my small tree
has become a tradition on my thanksgiving day or evening.
everyone needs a few traditions. you don’t have to have a crowd to have one.
traditions are always nice i think. we sometimes have them without even realizing it!
so. it’s a magical time for me. still.
i think bob would be pleased.
bob and i used to put up our tree on our anniversary which is december 7th.
it was always green. we opted for the most natural looking artificial tree we could find.
we always loved a fire in the fireplace . . . and that way we didn’t have to worry.
you know. about burning the house down! and i could keep it lighted
as long as i liked without the needles drying up and dropping.
and i never had to see it dumped into the gutter by the curb as soon as
the holiday was over. that almost brings tears to my eyes.
all those beautiful once~alive cut trees all dumped like so much garbage.
at least some cities now gather them and mulch them. or use them somehow.
it just seems the waste of a perfectly good tree to me!
although i’m sure if you’re reading this and you’re a christmas tree farmer . . .
you’re hating me about now!
but the glorious super tall ones they cut down to display in the big cities . . .
like new york and of course always the ‘white house’ . . . oh my gosh.
all those beautiful giants killed every single year. THAT just makes me downright sad.
they’ve been cutting these majestic trees for so many years now . . .
they could have PLANTED one and by now and it would be as tall as those sacrificed.
and all for just a mere few weeks. so STUPID. the trees have more value to me than that.
when will we realize how sacred our trees are? we need all that we can get now.
i say that from the standpoint of living in a hot state that bull dozes them down constantly
for the ‘convenience’ of building anything and everything.
my only hope is that those giants are old and near the end of their lives anyway.
or maybe they’re even diseased. though i rather doubt it.
they always talk of these tall beauties as being the ‘ultimate specimen.’
as if it’s some grand honor to be hacked down and taken from their forest
and stuck up in some city somewhere for a few weeks. and then thrown away.
uh oh. uh oh. DANGER !!!! DANGER !!!!
that soap box just came out of the closet and jumped right under my feet! IT DID!
sorry monk !!! there’s really just NO hope for me. and we all know it.
let’s see tammy. pray do tell. what’s your REAL opinion on well . . .
ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.
well. back to what this post is about. a cheerful thanksgiving “hello!”
ya gotta watch out for me. i digress. but then you know that about me old bean.
where was i? oh yes. decorating the tree.
bob always put the tiny white lights on the tree for me . . . as it was a tall one.
and then . . .
he would sit back on the sofa with a cup of coffee or glass of wine . . .
and supervise and smile indulgently while i worked my magic with the tree. LOL.
good times old bean. very good times!
and . . .
i will also be putting up the simple green wreath of welcome
on my balcony french doors.
that i always do. wherever and whatever the door . . . it’s so cheery.
and . . . well . . .
from my little wren house apartment here on the second floor . . .
to your wonderful house or rv or sailboat or apartment or condo or mobile home . . .
many snoopy hugs and cheeriness for today
and on our ‘official’ day of thanks that’s coming up . . .
love you old bean!
oh yes. and . . .
if you’re feeling alone or lonely on thanksgiving day
you can always drop by here.
i know for some people holidays can be a bit hard.
maybe you’d enjoy browsing around some of the funnier old posts if you’re sad.
those would probably fall under the ‘so embarrassing’ category.
except for the seasonal post ‘away with the manger’. . . a true and hilarious story.
. . . and there are a few others.
and if you wanna’ get your irish up . . . you can always find my soap box . . .
it’s interspersed throughout here and there. LOLOL!
you can count on snoopy and woodstock and me to be here.
we’ll be having a piece of that pie!
