it’s so lovely. so quiet.
yes. of course. we had ice. as always!
before snow we have to have a thin or thick
deadly beautiful layer of ice over the land.
there was a 10 car pile up on I-240 yesterday morning.
no one can drive well on ice. no one.
ice is ice.
but people still drive on it as if it is merely a light rainy day!
too fast. too close behind. and then BAM.
i would have been out there going to work with the rest of them.
and now . . . yet another wonderful part of being retired.
simply being able to stay home.
i cannot imagine why anyone would not want to be retired!
except maybe for the age thing. and even that’s not so bad really.
is it that i’m ultimately lazy?
or am i simply completely totally deliriously happy to
just live here in the wren house now like a cosy bird?
yup. that’s it.
i worked so very many years and thought that was wonderful too.
but toward the end. i was bone weary old bean. i truly was.
i just got worn out. and the old heart and uncontrollable blood pressure thing . . .
so . . .
i’m lucky that i got to retire finally.
and lucky because . . .
smarter people than i took out of my salary for years and years and years!
i didn’t even miss it. it was gone before i even got my check. it was invested for me.
and that’s a good thing. because i’ve only since gotten the habit of saving.
had it not been for someone else controlling my savings . . .
i’d no doubt be living in a cardboard box under a bridge somewhere.
sad to have to admit. but true.
the only thing I DID have under control was very simple living.
when you don’t need much it doesn’t take much!
so now . . . i’m a happy camper to stay inside and see this from my balcony.
my hat’s off to all of you who have to be out there whether you want to
to be hurrying to work in dangerous conditions.
to scrape that windshield of the ice or snow.
to shovel walks so the family can get to the school bus or your car.
my heart to yours!
you are admired! i remember those days of my own. you are admired!
i did go out early yesterday.
to feed the birds.
speaking of the little birds
i put two kinds of their favorite food out yesterday here.
it’s like they’ve totally disappeared!
and there were even none this morning!
we normally have hundreds and hundreds here at my apartments.
because we have lots of tall trees . . .
and much shrubbery with berries and greenery like yaupon holly.
however we’re also close to the river.
it’s lined of course with forest on either side.
perhaps they all go there in bad weather!
i dearly love the little birds.
if you can . . .
please remember to feed them this time of year.
it takes little to help these precious creatures survive.
and their life is hard this time of year.
all fluffed up to try and get warm.
i always think of any little creature enduring this weather.
and even the bigger creatures.
the horses and cattle with no shelter. or even poor dogs in yards with no shelter.
people say . . .
oh. they don’t mind. they have thick coats.
and yet . . .
when they ARE provided with any kind of shelter . . .
notice how they’re IN IT ???
seems to me if they didn’t mind they’d stay out in the cold.
maybe we don’t know as much about them as we think we do.
any living thing deserves a chance to be warm and sheltered from
the wind and the ice and freezing rain and snow.
all yesterday i was listening to the wind and the freezing rain.
and i’m hoping they were in their nests and dens and little hollows.
the ice is melting. fast now. the temperature is up to 34 i think.
we are awaiting promised snow ! tonight or tomorrow.
maybe . . .
just maybe . . . it will only JUST SNOW !
no high winds. no ice first.
keep your fingers crossed!
but shhhh . . . .
i’m afraid to say all this out loud and jinx it . . .
i do so love the snow.
especially if it falls in big fluffy flakes.
it covers everything and makes the world a magical kingdom.
what is not to love ??? LOLOL.
don’t answer that!
i know many of you have to endure weeks on end of it.
when it only comes occasionally and only lasts a day or more
it is a totally different experience!
i apologize for being so delighted.
I AM DELIGHTED ! ! ! !
til soon old bean.
stay warm and dry.
or if you’re in the land of oz or sunny india
frosty snoopy hugs to all !
