the black hole.
i never really know where the subject of a post will come from.
i’m interested in so many things.
ideas are everywhere old bean !
it was a lazy sunday afternoon.
94 degrees F. or if you prefer . . . 34.44 C.
LOL. a positive cold front here !
extreme humidity high as ever of course.
in the morning at 7 am the humidity was reported at 100% but it wasn’t raining.
thank heaven for air conditioning.
i’d been reading since early morning.
nice. quiet. a great book.
mainly just being still and trying to stay cool.
kind of like these guys!
wonder if they’re watching tv.
i turned on the television. which i seldom ever do during any day!
the things i watch are not the mainstream and usually always in the evening.
if i even watch it at all.
i watch programs from the bbc ~ they are always so good. total quality.
whether comedies or mysteries or historical dramas.
and of course . . .
gotta have my downton abbey fix. can’t wait for it in january!
and the truly great documentaries on the public broadcasting service . . .
many of them by our own ken burns.
there are some really great programs on there. music and science and history.
and oh yes . . . i love the weather channel!
but those are all things i might watch in the evening.
it was unusual that i turned it on around 4 pm on sunday.
i surfed a bit just to see what was what.
on TLC was a show …
you know what TLC stands for ?
THE LEARNING CHANNEL !!!
this show had that honey boo boo person in it.
i guess it’s her own show. i don’t know. i’ve heard about her and her family.
i thought they were supposed to be a joke. but apparently these people are for real.
i actually watched it for a few minutes.
dear god in heaven.
they all passed gas out loud and laughed about it
they all burped continually and loudly.
one girl spit huge amounts of phlegm after making that hocking sound in her throat
(i bet she’s really fun on a date)
then they slopped their way through food.
one teen aged daughter purposely sneezed all over her mother’s face.
they did every bit of this on live camera sitting around in their house.
i cannot call it a home. it’s slovenly and dirty and disgusting.
it’s like nothing i’ve ever seen before!
i still have trouble believing they’re real and really on television.
if they are . . . then this is taking ‘reality tv’ to an all time low.
apparently it’s been on for some time. i’ve just never seen it before.
these people give a bad name to hogs.
i actually like real hogs.
real hogs have dignity and we know now . . . they are very intelligent.
but not these human hogs. they have nothing in the way of manners.
and it’s supposed to be funny? this is entertainment?
and it’s on a channel called ‘ the learning channel ‘ ????
what pray tell are people learning? . . . and worse . . .
what are the children who may be watching this learning?
to be GROSS and crude and disrespectful of everyone?
has quality and taste in entertainment left us completely?
if you should happen to like that show . . .
and if i offend your taste by my review . . . well . . .
no. that’s a lie. i’m not sorry!
talk about the dumbing down of america !!!!
but yes. you’re right.
we do live in a free country.
and i guess the honey boo boo’s can have their own shows.
and for that freedom we have here i’m very proud.
but now that i’ve actually seen what it’s about . . .
i’m so glad i also have the freedom not to watch it!
on another channel was a movie.
‘ bad boys II ‘
starring will smith.
i like will smith. he’s handsome. and a very talented actor. but i didn’t watch it.
i didn’t even know there was a ‘ bad boys I ‘ !!!
the surfing reconfirmed why i don’t watch the regular channels.
i clicked on my trustworthy ‘national weather channel’ and watched a program on
the infamous hurricane sandy.
amazing footage of that colossal storm!!! it was so incredible.
when it was happening i watched . . . like the rest of the country did ~
in total awe.
this time seeing it in retrospect it was still unbelievable.
the sheer enormity of it and the damage it caused.
my heart goes out to all of you all over again if you sustained its damage and terror.
just look at this.
an unbelievably beautiful ominous storm. forming before it strikes.
there she stands.
and either minutes or maybe a few hours later . . .
notice where the height of the waves are
compared to the same area of her in the top picture.
gigantic. deadly. simply unbelievably high.
it’s hard to even see it in perspective in the second shot without looking back at the first one.
then . . . program over.
turned off the black hole again.
hmmmmm . . .
thoughts of ‘bad boys’ came to my mind.
the two words kept coming back to my mind.
i got to thinking.
what is the appeal of the true ‘bad boys?’
not the movie.
but the bad boys we all know of.
we’ve all known them in our lives. at least one?
or if not . . . we’ve known OF them!
and they are
well . . .
treading carefully here old bean . . . LOL . . .
whether you want one or not
and most of us have sense enough not to want one for real . . .
you must admit
at least i do admit . . .
there is something rather fascinating about them.
this little guy?
but he’s not a real bad boy.
i think he’d like to think he’s a real bad boy.
but sorry bieb. you’re not.
you really come off only as a young teenager with rather poor manners.
i’m about to show you some real bad boys.
most of them are from times well past.
because for some reason . . .
they were the originals.
there have been ‘wanna be’s’ that have followed.
but being a real bad boy is like anything else.
it’s only fascinating if it’s real. something within. something that is like breathing.
and these bad boys?
they’re for real.
it was never a put on act. they were the real thing.
some were before my time. some were during it.
some are now only memories.
but they were all fascinating to watch.
and some are coming up in the ranks right now
and are still ever fascinating.
i started with his picture because his quote i believe
is the connecting mantra among all bad boys . . .
just read it and think about them as you see their pictures.
they do it
“papa” . . .
a bad boy that literally lived like most of the heros in his novels.
a man’s man.
and in the end . . .
we know now . . .
a tragic fragile bad boy ego
that killed the man. literally.
next . . .
a former president
looking handsomely bad here.
a charming bad boy. intelligent. witty. courageous.
swimming while dragging a fellow sailor in his teeth was no made up story.
later . . .
he possibly averted world war III . . . it’s true.
but he was a bad boy all the way.
he liked ‘woman.’ and that’s not a typo.
he just liked womankind. everything about them.
he totally loved his jackie.
(and that’s the enigma of most of them)
but he liked women. he was a charming bad boy.
john f kennedy
and of course . . .
the original bad boy of epic novels . . .
“he makes me feel like he knows what i look like in my shimmy!”
whispers scarlet as she climbs the stairs.
played of course by clark gable.
a bad boy himself in his early years.
and then . . . there is
the consummate actor.
he made it look effortless they say.
and kate hepburn loved him unquestioningly for years.
and nursed him through all his binges.
he was a bad boy.
this next young bad boy died way too soon.
a loss of true talent.
a haunting face.
then . . .
the one line.
i think it was from ‘on the waterfront.’ can’t really remember.
asked of this bad boy . . .
“what are you rebelling against?”
“what have ya got?”
he started a whole NEW way of acting.
he single handedly created ‘the hood’ for an entire generation!
the turned up collar.
the black leather jacket.
in real life.
a beautiful bad boy.
there are those who are bad . . .
with the rugged yet sleek look of huge cats.
the eyes have it.
they give messages without words.
the mouth sometime grins a sly small grin. sometimes not.
these next two guys are what i’m talking about.
one from scotland. one from england.
both beautiful bad boys. and both good friends in real life.
and his buddy
and now ~
‘mister cool’ bad boy of all time . . .
as in nicholson.
the man is positively scary.
back to the u.k.
and a welshman.
i think of him as ‘the voice.’
my god what a voice. what a delivery. he could read the phone book to me.
and i would sit and be mesmerized.
elizabeth was mesmerized too. and he was a very very bad boy. but she tried twice.
a beautiful man.
this next actor was a drinking buddy of his.
such talent. he only died i think a year or so ago. a long career.
and bad to the bone!
if you’re young ~ you know him as this guy . . .
he had mellowed by now . . .
he played professor dumbledore in harry potter of course.
he used to be the rascal and superb actor always . . .
and a bad boy in real life . . .
one of my favorite movie musicals . . . camelot.
then there’s this guy . . .
how could we leave him out?
yes even if he went publicly nuts . . .
and he really did for a little while.
i still like charlie though. i do like bad boys. it’s no doubt the “wendy” in me!
he’s got his act together finally. but he will forever be a bad boy.
and now . . .
the bad boy that most of you younger peanut readers can enjoy . . .
and are probably thinking . . .
somebody in OUR OWN age group!!!
quirky. talented. bad.
and . . .
maybe i’ve saved the best for the last . . .
or is it that he’s just last on this list !!!
because ~ they’re all the best ~
but for those of us that are classic movie buffs . . .
which anyone can now enjoy really . . . thanks to TCM and dvd’s
no one has the excuse of not knowing any of the golden age of actors anymore.
not with all the pictures and information on the internet
classic movies are easily available and SO DANG GOOD !!!
many quality films out there to discover if you haven’t.
if you’re young and haven’t seen some of these actors ~
you ought to certainly check them out! you’ll be surprised.
i say classic here . . .
because this one was even before MY time !
and that’s saying something!
but my gosh.
the first and truly probably best of the truly bad boys.
let’s put another truly in there ! LOLOL
the irresistible Australian
it’s a legend that he invented water skiing.
he was a daredevil in real life.
and literally did all of his own stunts in his movies.
that’s really him sword fighting and leaping through the trees. no net.
he played the best robin hood.
but he had some serious dramatic roles too and was a good actor.
his best role i think though . . . was being errol flynn.
in real life . . . he adored women.
and he was a very very bad boy.
LOL. you can just tell can’t you? wow.
i’m sure i’ve missed your favorite. i’m sorry!
but it’s already a long post.
and to tell you the truth . . .
when i started thinking about them . . .
there were some that were only sort of bad ~ and MANY that were downright beautiful ~
like paul newman and redford . . . and of course the gorgeous cary grant
but they’re not bad boys. they’re all good boys.
sinatra tried to be a bad boy. but of a different kind. he just didn’t cut this list.
singers are in a compartment of their own probably. haven’t given it much thought.
maybe another post. LOL.
although . . .
now there was a sweet bad boy! loved HIM.
i plum forgot all about him! can’t leave out dean~o
and his italian voice. lovely.
and i didn’t put any musicians in it on purpose. because frankly . . .
i have always thought that most of the rock musicians
kind of ‘work at it’ if you know what i mean.
they just seem to me like they’re trying too hard.
my bad boys are naturally bad.
the best kind!
do you see what i mean?
there’s a very definite quality that a bad boy has.
it’s a chemistry all his own. and it’s rather rare actually.
just being a heavy drinker doesn’t make you one. nor does treating women badly.
that NEVER EVER appeals to anyone.
whatever it is . . .
it’s just a strange and mysterious quality about them. a definite chemistry.
there’s just the little reckless ornery headstrong boy in all big grown up bad boys.
we’re a little scared of them.
and we love them.
til soon old bean!
