this post is not for the men.
it is for us girls.
we girls? no.
good grief charlie brown. who cares about perfect english?
you made me lose my cool.
we’re on a mission here !!!
THIS IS MISSION POSSIBLE.
rumor has it and all of our best intelligence in the field
is saying that
spring is here.
true. not in every single corner of the place.
but even those who are thinking things will never change . . .
our intelligence in the field
says it will. they’re guaranteeing it.
we girls must be ready.
should you choose to accept it.
and you are strongly urged to do so ~
will be revealed to you in a minute.
from our files
we have the following pictures that will be helpful
to you in your endeavor in completing this mission.
please pay close attention.
i see some of you are smiling. yes. these images do evoke a smile.
(not to mention the names of the sources ~ BIRDWORMS??? LOL)
but your mission is not what you think.
it has nothing to do with calories
nor actual sherbet nor sorbets
(a favorite of mine by the way!)
nor preparing delicious treats for your loved ones.
this mission is totally about you.
the next image will be your first clue.
the lowly and under rated little sundress.
it is dangerously addictive.
it is comfortable.
it is easy to care for.
it is cool on the most sweltering summer days.
it is for ALL ages! and almost EVERY SINGLE body shape!
do not contradict me please. i am agent X. and i say it is.
your mission. should you choose to accept it.
somehow. beg. borrow. or steal enough moolah. well . . .
maybe not steal.
they don’t let you wear sundresses in prison.
i think they wear orange jumpsuits there or something.
you get the picture.
and it doesn’t mean you have to rush out and buy a lily pulitzer original.
may she rest in peace.
though . . .
if you can afford a really fine quality well made sundress
it will reward you by looking good for years to come.
the ‘fit’ will be better too of course.
but . . .
don’t let lack of funds stop you!
because whatever your budget may be ~
as a matter of fact ~ vintage and thrift shoppes
and plain old chain stores are often your best and most fun sources.
we’re not talking spending a fortune here.
this is not everyday fare.
unless you’d want it to be.
then you could i guess! you’d create your own signature style!
no. i’m meaning . . .
it’s just a certain
lily pulitzer way of thinking . . .
it’s not HER style we’re after here.
her dresses were colorful little slim shifts.
and they were/are just beautiful!
no. not necessarily her style . . . but just
she died recently at the beautiful age of 87.
she brought color into the lives of thousands.
granted . . . those thousands had $$$$$’s to spend . . . LOL!
it’s the idea behind what she stood for.
ease of movement.
beautiful uplifting happy color.
and a welcoming of the human body.
yes. she stood for all that. but those are my words.
i just made them up. and i like what they say.
“a welcoming of the human body.”
that’s a lovely phrase.
it simply means
your body doesn’t have to be perfect.
forget about perfect arms.
if you’re not 16 you don’t have perfect arms.
i’m sorry. you can work out at the gym 99 times a week
82 hours a day ~ personal trainer and all ~
but if you’re not 16 ~ you just don’t have perfect arms.
look at madonna. good lord. there is nothing remotely beautiful
about her mannishly muscular skinny arms. at least to me . . .
and yet . . .
she goes about the world and her business dressing however she wants.
showing off those arms! (among other parts. LOL.)
if madonna has the guts and glory to do it for MONEY !!!!
and her profession!!!! and just because she wants to!!!
then so can you.
have the guts and glory to shop for groceries and ENJOY your life i mean.
LOLOL!!! whoops! almost backed myself into a corner there. LOLOL!!!
when will we here in America
realize that AGE is simply a number?
there are people like my unhappy late mother in law
who worried her ENTIRE life what “other people” would think.
she was wealthy. she could afford the best. and she did.
but. she lived in a little scared beige box that she built around herself.
‘tasteful’ is the word she used over and over.
my own mother dressed very ‘tastefully’ too.
though certainly not wealthy was she.
but she still had a flair. and that is called ‘style.’
you cannot buy style. you can emulate it i guess. and you can learn it to a degree.
i think it is simply a freedom of KNOWING yourself. and BEING yourself.
and being JOYOUS in that knowledge and being.
your mission today
should you choose to accept it
even if you normally live your life in sweat pants and dark colors
if you only dress in ‘tasteful and age appropriate’ slacks or suits
if you just love
totally monochromatic beige and white clothes (which i admit…i do love)
and / or
if you’re thinking
oh my god. i would NEVER be caught dead in a sundress
much less a COLORFUL one!
much less in PUBLIC!!!
well. think again.
like an exotic food.
just try it. if you’ve never. or if it’s been a long time . . .
try it again.
or at least try it ONCE!
there are those who never have.
those who used to when they were younger maybe . . .
and then after a ‘certain age’ felt it not right
but then . . .
there are those of us.
~ like me ~ AGENT X ~ i mean ~
who just start to think of sundresses
when it turns spring
and you just can’t wait to go and pick one
you know . . .
like some people pick a beautiful little flower . . .
you’re enjoying one of the supreme
rituals of spring.
a girl and a sundress.
and this girl is 67.
and this girl has darn pretty good arms for 67.
but. after all. they ARE 67 year old arms! LOLOL!
aaaggghhh??? !!! what? she can’t face the truth?
i don’t care what you say. it’s what agent X chooses to think. LOL.
it’s all okay.
it’s okay. just firm them up as much as you can. then forget it.
include backstrokes and breaststrokes with your daily exercise.
it seems to do the job. (no water. LOL. just the strokes)
another secret is lotion. lots of lovely moisture. makes for smooth.
yup. and she’s lovely. she is.
but even if she didn’t have good old arms . . . she wouldn’t care!!!
i am agent X. and i never lie.
life is to be LIVED.
as my beloved mentor ‘auntie mame’ says
“LIFE IS A BANQUET !!! AND MOST POOR SUCKERS
ARE STARVING TO DEATH!”
and she doesn’t mean the poor dearest people who
are ‘literally’ starving to death. that is for another post
on another day.
she means people who are too afraid to live
for fear of what ‘someone else’ is going to say.
“look what she has on!”
“well i never! she’s too old for that!”
“i’d never wear a dress like that. even to my own funeral!”
the funny thing is ~ the ‘someone elses’ are too
busy worrying about what ‘someone else’ is thinking about
THEM ! LOLOL! YES! LOLOL.
that’s the secret nobody realizes! LOL.
and tell me. who cares?
in this world with so much else that’s really important
to worry about
who cares about your sundress???
celebrate life. celebrate spring!
and the coming HOT days of summer!
it’s strictly a ‘feel good’ thing.
there’s a sundress out there for you.
no matter what your size
no matter what your age.
no matter what shape you’re in
the code words to this mission are
should you choose to accept this mission possible
here’s the ONLY rule of the mission.
you have to wear your little sundress
with delight. and panache. and
most important of all . . .
here’s one very lady like doncha know.
you’re saying . . .
your first picture agent X ~ is a slim young blonde?
well. it was the DRESS i was going for.
now straighten up and read on. the mission report continues.
and if you’re not tiny . . .
who in the hell cares?
well. excuse me.
but it’s time for a little swearing.
agent X has to get your attention
every now and then.
oh. i absolutely love this one. it has a retro feel that takes me back.
cool porches. white wicker. iced tea.
summer afternoons. croquet on the lawn.
maybe the drive-in movie later on.
and the strains of ‘only you’ floating on the temperate air.
sherbet colors not exactly your cup of tea?
be an earthy gypsy butterfly! be rich and colorful and cool!
a feminine classic. can never beat it. no matter what the print.
or no matter what the color.
* code words!!!
remember the code words for this mission.
she’s quite possibly meeting 007 at a soiree. well. she could.
i am agent X. i know these things.
hideous jewelry. sorry. just say’in.
drags down and overpowers the lightness of the dresses.
and these dresses are so lovely too.
and then . . .
below . . .
lovely. cool. colorful.
for a long time i felt a little funny
wearing a sundress with my pixie hair cut.
felt a little like peter pan in drag. LOLOL!
not any more.
i just feel
lovely cool and colorful.
and the next picture . . . yes.
the one coming below . . .
captures everything that is meant
about this mission.
back to that old imagination.
you have to feel it.
you have to see it.
you have to know in your heart
even if you’re walking on a busy noisy city street
or in a dinky little dusy town
you have to feel and see the beauty
deep within your soul
a sunny blue sky and the whisper of ocean waves
and the calling of the gulls
if you are lucky enough to have wonderful olive skin.
wearing a sundress is going to only add to your beauty.
if you’re pale and creamy
let the rest of the pale and creamies think they need a tan ~
don’t fall for it.
be the perfect pale and pastel cool flower. the one in the shade
of the grey stone wall. beautiful for its fragile petals.
just in case
you ALL accept this mission
keep in mind the danger therein . . .
do not forget
well. old bean.
the end of another long winded post.
do i write any other kind?
sad to say. no.
til soon old bean.
