isn’t he the greatest!
i think if i had it to do all over again
i would try to work at an oceanic rescue acquarium.
i love all animals.
but i have a soft spot for dolphins and sea otters and the gentle shy manatee.
oh but dogs!
and little pigs
and even sloths
more kinds than that.
well . . .
you get the picture.
i just love them all!
sorry. i digress.
eddie was rescued.
he now lives at the oregon zoo with thelma.
the love of his life.
they float together holding hands.
she is his biggest fan.
because . . .
you see . . .
eddie has a talent.
to treat him for arthritis . . .
the otter vet said
shooting baskets would be just the thing
to keep his little elbow joints from hurting so much.
so . . .
he’s a slam dunker!
and get this . . .
all by himself . . .
he doesn’t need prompting . . .
if he doesn’t get it in the basket
he just keeps trying til he does!!!
he gets it in most EVERY TIME!
he’s a slam dunk star is eddie.
move over LeBron James!
he does not perform for the public.
this is just for eddie.
and his little elbows.
and his wife thelma.
it just makes the world seem like a better place
i thought you’d like to hear about it.
that’s right thelma! give your guy a hand!
i see why you’re so crazy about him.
even if he didn’t shoot baskets!
he is so COOL!
but you’re pretty darn cute yourself.
you are an endangered species.
it is closely estimated by the world wildlife oceanologists that
there are only about 2800 southern sea otters left in the great seas.
and thanks to
continuous oil spills and
commercial fishermen’s nets
and the fact that
STUPID people still think they have to WEAR your fur . . .
your numbers continue to dwindle.
but . . .
we are glad at least you are safe
the basketball star.
you teach us
to keep on
to work through our pain
and to hold each other’s hand
and to love this life.
even if it’s in the oregon zoo.
i love you eddie.
i love you thelma.
