isn’t that a beauty?
here’s one in a more recognizable form. the tornado.
i live right smack in the middle of what’s called ‘tornado alley.’
i’m used to these. we go through it every year at least twice now.
used to . . . it seemed to be only one tornado ‘season’. now it’s prolonged.
one thing about tornadoes. yes. they sometimes do change course.
and god knows they are powerful and devastating.
we all know that they leave wreckage and devastation in their wake.
but with a tornado . . .
you don’t have the added danger of being swept out into the sea.
the deep dark sea.
they don’t scare me 1/10th as bad as a hurricane scares me.
especially a hurricane like the huge monster that is wreaking havoc
along the northeastern seaboard of our dear country right now.
there is something about the sheer power and depth of the ocean.
i love the ocean.
i love how it smells and sounds and looks.
but i don’t want to be on it.
and i sure don’t want to be very near it when there’s a hurricane roaring
i have been watching the weather channel.
the path is so widespread. this is truly a monster storm.
and like it said. it’s a “nor’easter wrapped in a hurricane.”
just look at these pictures i got from cnn.
they have an awful beauty. sheer power and violence.
these pictures show us that we are small.
very very small. we are small. we just tend to forget that we are.
politics . . . set aside.
murders . . . set aside.
petty celebrities making fools of themselves . . . set aside.
mother nature rules.
everything and everybody plays by her rules. it’s her game.
it’s the only game in town right now.
and you better be paying attention. or you lose.
i hope if you are in this harm’s way that you are safe.
i hope if you have family in this harm’s way that you can contact them
and know they’re okay.

halloween is on the 31st.
the holiday for witches and goblins and monsters.
well . . .
we had a monster pay us a visit a few days early.
how amazing that this historic monster should have the
sweet innocuous name of “sandy.”
before it even reached us it was responsible for death and destruction
in the bahamas ~ cuba ~ jamaica ~ and haiti.
