the thing that started this post today was this.
it’s a gorgeous brisk grey day here with a stiff breeze and a chance of
it’s a true water color sky. my favorite!
i’ve got the corners lighted. and the window open in my little library
where i’m writing this so i can hear the autumn leaves blowing.
and i put on a HUGE pot of vegetable soup.
the wee blink bonnie already smells heavenly!
BUT. i somehow got distracted when i was steaming the carrots.
i like to put them in the steamer first. don’t ask me why. i just do.
i steam them to perfect al dente’ before adding them to the pot.
then i always add the steam water in the bottom of the double boiler
to the soup pot too to get all the vitamins.
i took out my recycle bin. it’s trash day.
my neighbor peter was out there getting ready to go to work.
we hadn’t talked in awhile. he’s a neat guy.
we started to visit just a bit.
apparently the steam water in the bottom of the double boiler
was getting low. i talked too long with peter.
i came back in to the little pan in that lovely DARK BROWN stage.
hadn’t begun to smell BLACKENED yet. just very very very brown.
and dried on already. three very’s. whoops. not good.
i learned this first tip when i worked 5 years at the big hotel and conference
center in oklahoma city. you may already know this trick.
it’s VERY handy.
i watched the set up captain do it many times.
coffee of course was always at the back of the conference rooms for the
every now and then the client would pour the last of the coffee and then
set the pot back on the burner with a little in it and without turning it off.
you know the type . . . big. super smart. very important. CEO’s.
and they would burn up the silly pot. STINKY ROONEY !!!!
yup. that looks just like those pots used to look. those sweet CEO’s.
my pan wasn’t THAT BAD this morning !!!!
the captain taught me this . . .
IMMEDIATELY ~ the trick here is to do it when the pot is still HOT ~
put in a bunch of ice. just a really good sized handful should do.
ours was always crushed since we were a conference center.
but i used ice cubes this morning in my pan and it worked perfectly.
you might think the ice will break the pot. it won’t.
just put the ice in and swirl it around and around and around.
voila. MAGIC ! the brownish blackish burnish gook in the pan just
either dissolves totally to liquid like mine did this morning . . .
or comes off in nice little flecks of burnt coffee . . . that you can
then just pour out and wash easily away. only i strain the solid flecks
and put them in the trash. don’t want them going down the drain.
I LOVE YOU CAPTAIN !!!
where were you when i was a young bride?
the next tip is . . .
man! that soup is smelling delicious.
hahaha. sorry. just had to brag there.
the next tip is from bob’s uncle ray. he was only 8 years older than bob.
i tell you. was he not gorgeous?
i have been blessed in my life with the most beautiful men.
inside and out. every single one of them.
they have been wonderful to know.
he died of lung cancer about 10 years after my bob died.
but when he taught me this tip he was alive and well
and he was always one of my favorite people.
he was in the navy when he learned this tip. they HAD to do it on ship.
a picture of my two good lookin’ men
ray’ s tip that he learned aboard ship . . .
it’s easy to do if you live alone like i do.
it might be a tad harder with a family. you just have to train them.
that’s all! LOL. i know. easier said than done. but still . . .
worth a try. because the results are spectacular.
clean white tile. mine looks like this. seriously. after 14 years !!!
not my shower. but almost. without the little black diamonds.
this clean? no problem.
just seeing if you men peanut readers are paying attention. LOL.
i figured we’ve probably lost you by now.
and you need to learn this tip if it’s going to work for everybody’s
uncle ray’s navy tip is just so simple.
EVERYBODY must towel down the shower when they’re through.
dry it off real good. it takes a matter of MOMENTS. so don’t say you
don’t have enough time. would you rather SCRUB the grout and tile
with a harsh to you and the environment cleanser later? or would
you just like to make sure you’ve dried the tile after every use?
it’s so easy it’s ridiculous! i haven’t had to scrub tile in YEARS!
and there’s never any of that icky mold or whatever that’s so unhealthy.
be a good sailor and towel down your shower. it’s so worth it!
i know some of you surely have even BETTER tips than these.
don’t be shy! we’re all longing to hear about them!
over a 100 of you read this little peanut each day now.
that means there must be some doozies (a good thing) out there
that could help the rest of us!
