“it was a dark and stormy night . . . ”
naw. it really wasn’t.
as a wanna be writer i’ve always wanted to start a story with that
corny old line. so now i have. LOL.
it was a crystal clear still as glass night. and cold.
bob and i had had a very big evening for us. we were kind of home
bodies. we liked nothing more than to curl up with a good book in
front of our fireplace . . . or watch upstairs downstairs on masterpiece
only tonight was special. it had been new year’s eve.
we lived in a suburb of tulsa. called broken arrow.
broken arrow was still fairly rural. we owned a home on two and a half
we had driven into tulsa for dinner and a movie.
then we had as we usually did . . . stopped at our favorite place for
coffee to discuss the movie. and life.
there were miles of fields and forest between tulsa and broken arrow
now it’s hard to tell where one city starts and the other one ends.
but on this night. it was a beautiful drive in the country.
on the way home.
because of it being a holiday night . . . and about an hour after midnight . . .
there were more cars on the road than normally would have been at
that time of night. it was a two lane highway then.
a very bright light could be seen to the upper right through the front
windshield of our car. it was extremely bright. and it was close.
i rolled down my side window to see what in the world it was.
though . . . ‘what in the world’. . . would be an inaccurate choice of words.
unless the united states air force was playing a little practical joke
on the poor unsuspecting taxpayers below. . . because
i’m not to this day, entirely sure that it was from this world.
“hey! look what we’ve got!
we’ve got a brand new secret hover-craft.
and we’re gonna try to scare the heck out of you civilians
on new year’s eve ! your tax dollars at work ! LOLOLOL!”
i don’t think our united states air force guys work that way.
and anyway this was close. it was very close. and huge.
it was so close as a matter of fact . . . i could see what even appeared
to be windows of some sort. i saw nothing in the windows but light.
but they were windows. not round ones but rows of rectangular windows.
my bob was a private pilot. (and briefly a corporate pilot when we
were first married) so he was well aware of the lights on any aircraft.
and this aircraft did not have the normal lights.
and besides, it was not even the shape of any normal aircraft
commonly known. this aircraft was round. and not shiny.
it had a solid brilliant glow though underneath.
the picture on this post is as close as i could get to what we saw.
the one we saw did not have a shaft of light going down like the picture.
just an extremely solid bright white light encircling the base of the craft.
is the oddest thing of all to me.
we felt no fear. seriously. no fear. interest. fascination.
unbelievability . . .
but never fear.
bob pulled the car over on the shoulder of the road.
we got out. this thing or aircraft or whatever it was just hung there
motionless. it was totally silent. i mean NO SOUND. no whir. nothing.
by now there were other cars that had stopped too.
all car engines were turned off. quiet. nobody was saying anything.
people were out of their cars just standing. looking up at it.
suddenly. and i mean suddenly . . .
it was gone. it didn’t disappear. but it might as well have.
because that’s how fast it moved. it flew straight up and became a
speck of light. then even the light was gone.
what is totally odd to me as i have thought about this happening at
different times since then . . .
not a single one of us walked over to each other’s car. nobody said
anything! we all just got in our cars and slowly drove away.
you would think we would run around saying . . .
“WOW !!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT THING??? !!!”
or something! or anything!
but nobody did. we just all quietly drove away.
i think that’s almost as weird as what we saw! lol.
when we got home to broken arrow . . . i called the police department
non-emergency number. it took forever to get through. busy signals.
finally i was told that the switchboard operator was swamped with calls.
apparently more than our few cars had seen the same thing.
there seem to be two kinds of people regarding this stuff.
either you believe in ufo’s or you don’t.
i never thought about it much one way or another. until that night.
now i am a believer.
and i am not a weirdo. i have not been abducted and had my
belly button explored.
i simply saw what i saw. and so did my husband.
we personally had had nothing to drink in the way of alcohol that night!
i can’t speak for the other people in their cars.
it was . . . after all . . . new year’s eve. lol
but i know this . . .
i think it’s a bit egotistical of us to think we’re the ONLY beings of any
kind in the myriads of galaxies and universes and planets that are out
i don’t know why it’s so scary and threatening (religiously and otherwise)
for people to think we might not be the only ones.
i think it’s kinda fun! i wouldn’t mind a little ‘ e t ‘ guy to show up.
maybe he could tell us how we can quit killing each other.
maybe if his group has the ability to even get here . . . they have
figured out how to live in peace in the universe!
i don’t even know why i thought of this true little story even now.
i was just sitting here by my window that’s open, by my desk.
the sky is beautiful. the weather man says it’s going to be a clear,
you just never know.
and if you are also a believer . . . or if you’ve had your own experience
. . . we are not alone.
we have some very esteemed company.
i was even hugged by one of that company . . .
if you recall my insulting first-time meeting with
the astronaut buzz aldrin.
(if you’re new to the peanut you can meet him too by going to
‘categories’ and then clicking on ‘so embarrassing!’ and
reading how nice he was in “some things really are true.”)
he and his fellow astronauts on lunar apollo 11 . . . and the senior
scientist dr. david baker on the flight were all accompanied for
awhile by a ufo. they have spoken about it since . . .
along with other fellow astronauts edgar mitchell and gordon cooper
who’ve all seen them . . . at different times in their flights . . .
and when on the moon.
brave enough to speak out when they finally could . . .
without wrecking their military careers. it’s all such a silly secret.
and now . . . sadly so many of them are gone from us.
so . . . if we’re weird . . .
i guess we’re in good intelligent weird company!
colonel “buzz” edwin e aldrin jr.
colonel leroy gordon cooper
colonel edgar mitchell
commander neil armstrong apollo 11
commander m scott carpenter
yup. we’re in good company for sure.
i don’t feel so weird after all. how about you?
well. . . let’s see . . .
back to that . . . one dark and stormy night . . .
oh yes . . .
well . . . here’s what happened . . .
