it is time to get out of the doldrums. i have been spending too much
time in angst. over things i can do nothing about.
and over memories that are actually rather bittersweet.
so . . .
did you realize . . . as you probably do, that somebody who is miss
sunshine herself is alive and well and living in carmel? she is!
i have always loved this actress. she is multi-talented. she could make
us laugh. she could make us cry. she sings like an angel. and she has
a best selling cd right now, this very minute all over europe! especially
france. it’s a brand new cd of some of her favorites and some new ones.
i like her not only because her movies always made me ‘feel good.’
but because i admired the person she was underneath the movie star
facade. she was teased unmercifully for her ‘wholesomeness.’
but you know . . . maybe the world could use a little bigger dose of
wholesome and a little less dose of paris hiltons and lindsay lohans.
she adores animals. and she has spent her years in retirement helping
them in the best way. she gets her hands dirty! she walks in and rescues
them. or she used to. i bet she still does on occasion. her new endeavor
is to save ‘thrown-away and/or abused horses.’ she is wealthy enough
to buy the land that was necessary to start such a huge sanctuary for them.
but of course, she can’t do it all. so she has a foundation. every cent from
her new cd goes toward her animals in the sanctuaries, both small and
large animals. they are her first, and now . . . only love!
(well . . . and a lovely daughter-in-law and little grandson, of her late son).
that is her only family in the world now.
she can still be seen walking the streets of carmel, shopping for groceries
and having an occasional lunch out with good friends. she is usually left
alone because people respect her and her privacy.
she played opposite some of the most dashing leading men in the industry.
jimmy stewart, james cagney, cary grant, kirk douglas, rock hudson,
james garner (a favorite friend whom she chats with almost everyday now),
rex harrison, david niven, rod taylor and many many others.
she is as american as the freckles on her nose and her big toothy grin,
and the beautiful voice that still delights.
i know you’ve guessed from the beginning probably . . .
but if you’d like to check out her website for yourself, in case you haven’t
already . . . it’s http://www.dorisday.com/
captain fritter instructed me how to embed a simple blog address into
a post. but it’s late. i don’t have my paper here right now . . .
and i’m tired! so am going to hope THIS one works better than
the one i did last sunday. lol!
it really is worth a look-see. and that really is the address. 🙂
i skipped out of the white block that appears and went straight to the
blog. her sweet voice begins and accompanies you through a browse.
she is amazing. and there is usually a recording of an audio visit with her.
i have no idea who you are who are reading this blog! the stats only
give numbers. they give no age group or particulars of course!
except for the few that comment . . . whom i consider friends . . .
so please forgive me if she’s before your time!!! i find her rather timeless.
and anyway . . .
i just share here on the peanut, things that i love and that are
special to me. and she’s definitely one!
have a wonderful wednesday everyone!
virtual bear hugs to you all!
